Baby Toes – Who eats them?

Simple pleasures - Baby Toes

Simple pleasures – Baby Toes

Hands up if you did this too…

Today’s post has nothing to do with anything, and everything to do with life.  When I set out to write this blog, it was to inspire people – to invoke emotion, positivity, nostalgia, and to make people smile.

I wish I knew the last time I actually put my babies foot in my mouth.  Yep, I said it.  When my children were babies, I would put their perfect feet in my mouth.  For a good while, I could get the whole foot in, right up to the little soft unwalked on heel.  There was something about the pinkness, the softness, the 5 little toes round on the pads and with nails that were soft as paper that just begged to be kissed, and kiss them I did.  Kissing them, kissing fingers, kissing foreheads, lips and the top of their heads to smell that incredible “new baby” smell.  Even as I write, I smell it.  Unmistakeable and sweet.  But the feet…those perfect baby feet.

I wonder if I am the only one?  Google searches only lead me to a plethora of Hand, Foot and Mouth disease so it will be funny to see people find this page, only to be disappointed.  No cures, no oils, no solutions – just the meanderings of a mom, with three grown up kids, who wishes that she could just put those tiny little perfect feet back towards her mouth, to kiss them.

One more day

One more day

My children’s feet now wander the halls of esteemed universities, one pair graduating this year, another continuing on through journalism school.  One pair are currently walking on hot desert soil while they discover new people, new traditions and new directions for their life.  All three pairs of feet are connected to me.  I know that mothers will understand when I say that I wish for the baby feet to be back.  Even just for a day.  I am blessed to have my three amazing children.  My heart breaks when I hear of families who have lost their babies.  For them, I too wish for comfort, and remind them of this perfect memory of their babies new feet – representing their walk that they will take in life, however long.

But please, don’t judge me for putting them in my mouth.  I just had to kiss them more.  Did you do this too?

Love this post and you are definitely not alone in this! I laughed my way through this as I have a little boy who is around 20mths old and I always kiss his feet! Especially after a bath when the are soft and clean! I think it’s a mom thing to do. I know plenty of other mothers who also do it too!

Who can resist baby toes? Their smell is so sweet, like they’ve just been sent to us from Heaven. Really. Mine are grown as well, but thanks for the trip down memory lane!

They are perfection. Next to a baby sleeping, I think they are right up there on my list of baby love things! Thanks for reading. :) Sarah
